Fraud and identity protection present serious challenges for the entire communications ecosystem and, frankly, it takes a collaborative effort to stay even a fraction of a step ahead of criminal activity.  From personal devices to communications services, user and service provider communities are under constant attack and have to be ever-vigilant about their security measures.  This week, Fraud & Identity Today tackles questions around Gmail, VoIP fraud, BlackBerry’s attempt at recreating itself, and more.

It’s been around for a long time, but biometric technology has become much more prevalent with the latest generations of mobile devices that leverage fingerprint and iris scanning for security, access, and identification.  Integrated Biometrics, which has developed FBI-certified fingerprint scanners, says it plans to continue to deliver game-changing technology in the space, which will certainly have a parallel impact on personal and business devices as well.

Fraud continues to be a serious issue, with cybercriminals exploiting security gaps in VoIP services in massive fraud schemes.  Flashpoint has identified three main services Russian cyber criminals are currently exposing in various capacities:  Narayana, SIP24, and SIP Killer.

Mobile security has long been a focal area for BlackBerry and, even though it has pretty much taken itself out of the hardware business, it continues to deliver enterprise software, touting its strong security legacy and current capabilities.  “Throughout its history, people have trusted BlackBerry phones in the way they haven’t Android devices, Palm Pilots, and even iPhones.”
