Fraud & Identity Today Week in Review: PhishMe, iconectiv, POMM

Welcome to the week in review, where we take a look at all the top stories making headlines in the mobile fraud space this week.

The week started off with a look at mobile hotspot security. Larry Alton discusses the growing popularity of mobile hotspots and the cybersecurity threats they pose, despite their convenience. He suggests three ways to better protect mobile hotspots HERE.

Next up, PhishMe, a provider of human phishing defense solutions, announced the availability of PhishMe Free. According to the announcement, “PhishMe Free is a no-cost phishing simulation solution for small businesses of under 500 employees that conditions workers and helps them fortify their defenses against today's advanced cyberattacks, such as ransomware, business email compromise and spear-phishing.” Everything you need to know is HERE.

On the same note, a new campaign launched on Indiegogo, called POMM, is looking to solve issues presented by BYOD policies. Although using your own device for work is convenient, it also opens up a lot of sensitive data to fraudsters. If devices aren’t secured correctly, hackers can easily gain access to a lot of valuable data. Find out how POMM can help HERE.

Finally, the week rounded out with the news that Francisco Partners has finished its investment in iconectiv. As part of the investment, Francisco Partners invested $200 million to acquire a 16.7 percent ownership in the company. The full terms of the agreement can be found HERE.

That’s all for this week. Come back next week to read all the latest fraud-related news.
